Over the past two years, in consultation with each Catholic parish and regional elementary school throughout the Archdiocese of New York, the Superintendent of Schools Office has undertaken a School Renewal Process. This effort has been carried out in a spirit of prayer and careful discernment, seeking to ensure that Catholic education continues to serve families and form young people in faith for generations to come.
As a result of this process, we have come to the difficult determination that Sacred Heart School in Hartsdale will close at the conclusion of the 2025–2026 academic year.
We recognize how painful this news will be for families and for all who love this school. For many years, Sacred Heart School has been a place where children have learned, prayed, and grown together in faith, supported by devoted clergy, principals, teachers, and staff. The life of this community has touched many generations, and the Church remains deeply grateful for the enduring legacy it has created.
The School Renewal Process seeks to strengthen Catholic education for the future. At times, renewal calls us to make difficult decisions so that the mission of forming young people in Christ may continue in a strong and sustainable way. While the school’s ministry will conclude at the end of this academic year, the faith, friendships, and formation nurtured within this community will continue to bear fruit in the lives of its students and families.
In the days ahead, our team will work closely with your family to support you through this transition. Ms. Kathleen Crayne, Regional Director of Enrollment for Sacred Heart School, and her colleagues will work to help you and your child(ren) transition to another Catholic school for the 2026-27 school year.
You can reach Ms. Crayne or arrange a convenient time for a phone appointment by contacting her at: [email protected], or by calling our bilingual parent helpline at (646) 794-2885 between 9:00 and 5:00 pm Monday-Friday. Additional information and resources are available at www.catholicschoolsny.org/announcements.
Please know that your family and the entire Sacred Heart School community remain in our prayers.
Sincerely, in Christ,
Sr. Mary Grace Walsh, ASCJ, Ph.D. Superintendent of Schools
